Step Into Summer - But Don't Forget Your Feet!
June News from the Office of Dr. Marc Haspel
Summer is the perfect time to get outside and enjoy long walks, strolls through the park, or explore your favorite vacation destination. While you’re making the most of the season, remember that your feet need protection and support to keep you moving comfortably.
Although going barefoot may feel freeing, it can place excessive stress on your feet and increase your risk of injury. Likewise, flip-flops provide little support and can contribute to foot pain, especially for those who suffer from conditions such as plantar fasciitis, heel pain, or shin splints.
Our recommendation? Save the flip-flops for the pool, beach, or quick trips outdoors, and choose supportive walking shoes whenever you’re spending extended time on your feet. Proper footwear helps absorb shock, reduce pressure on your feet, and prevent painful flare-ups.
A few simple steps can help keep your feet healthy this summer:
Wear supportive shoes for walks and daily activities
Limit time spent barefoot on hard surfaces
Use flip-flops only for short periods
Replace worn-out shoes that no longer provide adequate support
Enjoy all that summer has to offer—and give your feet the support they deserve!
